Sardinia - thanks to its 1,840 kilometre long coastline, almost entirely
wild and uncontaminated; its clear sea, free from any kind of pollution;
its extremely temperate climate and its long "hot season" - has
become one of the most popular summer resorts. If to these outstanding features
one adds the wild inland areas - still keeping in many cases the characteristics
of a primordial nature with extremely rare species of flora and fauna, mostly
extinct anywhere else in Europe; if one adds its extraordinary artistic
and archaeological heritage, witness of the millenarian events of this land
which still today reveals a strict affection to the purest tradition through
its varied handicrafts and suggestive customs; if one adds the renowned
qualities of its typical products, its genuine cuisine and, last but not
least, its inhabitants' proverbial hospitality, one has a sufficiently complete
picture of the "good reasons" why many Italians and an ever increasing
number of foreigners choose to spend their holidays on the island. If it
is true that all these aspects have really contributed to ensure the island's
tourist success through the years, it is also true that the first strong
and irresistible call came from the splendid Sardinian coasts. And it is
just to the extraordinary marine Sardinian landscape, which is so pregnant
with wild beauty and fascination, that we have decided to dedicate this
Site. This site is a "multimedial" celebration of the splendour
of the Sardinian coasts: a rapid and very pleasing flight over the most
striking stretches of them, the images of which, although very beautiful,
can only in part communicate its indescribable fascination. We have chosen
71 stupendous areas, capable of enchanting even those who have known and
have being frequenting them for years: all the same it is not easy to affirm
with absolute certainty that the best of the island coasts is contained
in these pages. In fact there are many other hidden and isolated corners,
kingdom of a still uncontaminated nature.
